Botox – A wrinkle smoothing treatment

On your first consultation Dr Alison J Brown will go through your medical history to ensure that you can be safely treated with Botox. Alison will discuss with you where she would need to administer the tiny injections to achieve the best results from your Botox treatment. Everyone is different and some people prefer a more natural look retaining minimal movement, whilst others prefer all the movement to go. She will also make sure that you are fully informed about any aftercare advice.

Some people prefer quite arched eyebrows, but men, for example want their eyebrows to remain straight. An eyebrow lift is very popular as it slightly raises the upper eyelid to make eye makeup easier to apply. All this can be achieved and Alison will discuss this individually with you at your consultation.

Alison is fully qualified to prescribe Botox and complies with the latest prescribing legislation and uses the genuine Allergan Botox. The dose you are given is worked out according your requirements and to make sure that the results are exactly right for your face.

The treatment takes approximately 10 minutes and any discomfort is minimal and brief. A cold pack or numbing cream is used to numb the skin beforehand. This also prevents any bruising occurring. You may resume normal activity straight afterwards. However, Alison always advises you not to rub the area, lie flat or go to gym for 5-6 hours to ensure that the Botox diffuses into the muscles accurately where it is placed.

Minor bruising can occasionally occur but can be minimised by not taking aspirin, ibuprofen, garlic capsules or alcohol on the day prior to treatment unless advised to by your GP. Any slight bruising can be concealed with light makeup.

Men require larger doses of Botox for treatments so an additional £10 additional charge will be added per area to allow for this.

After 10-14 days you will see a marked improvement that may continue for the next 2 weeks. A review appointment will be arranged for you after this time to check the results of your Botox and ensure that you are entirely happy with your treatment. This review is important to make sure that you achieve the result which is absolutely perfect for you. There is no charge for this and if more botox is required this is provided free of charge. Results should last up to 4 months or longer in patients who have had botox treatments regularly. Botox relaxes the overactive muscles which cause the lines and creases. You will still be able to make your facial expressions but without the deep furrows, lines and wrinkles.

Alison also uses Botox to prevent the down-turn of the corners of the lower lip to and which give a sad expression to the mouth, even when you are perfectly happy. The relaxation of this muscle gives a much more natural look to the lower lip and prevents the ‘marionette’ creases.
